Obituary for Joseph R Spina Sr.

Joseph R. Spina Sr., 93 years old of Toms River passed away July 19, 2017 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

Born in Abbruzzi, Italy, Joseph came to the United States when he was 6 years old and lived in Jersey City, New Jersey before moving to Toms River in 2000. Joseph was a construction plumber and member of Local 24, (Formally Local 14) for 50+ years. He was an instructor and co-founder of the first plumber’s apprentice School for Local 14 . He was a corporal in the United States Air Force serving during World War II. Joseph can be remembered for his love of dancing, singing and whistling.

He was predeceased by his parents Felice and Cristina Spina, brother Anthony and his beloved wife Marie Spina who passed on July 1, 1993.

Surviving are his loving children son Joseph Jr. and his wife Audrey, daughters Christine “Tina” Caggiano and her husband Gerard and Margaret “Margie” Fedowitz and her husband Stephen. His sister Mary Accurso, his cherished grandchildren DawnMarie Lopes and her husband Sergio, Marissa Dye and her husband Thomas and his great grandchildren TinaMarie, Christian, Jarrod and Miranda.

Visiting will be Friday 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home 2482 Church Rd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday 9:15am at St. Luke’s RC Church, Toms River arrive at the funeral home 8:15am. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
